Spell

He was supposed to visit Iceland with his fiancée Jess. But after her sudden passing, rather than cancelling the trip, he decides to go alone. He’s looking for some distraction, or new experiences, or for the storm in his head to die down. There’s more than just the grief and the pain: he’s also obsessive compulsive. Too bad the pharmacies in Reykjavik don’t sell his medication, and he’s having a hard time telling his symptoms from the undeniably weird things happening around him: tattoos, forced mountain hikes and ancient gods trying to return to this plane of existence.

This is a perfect film to watch in the dark surrounded by water, thanks to the gorgeous images of Iceland’s natural landscapes it offers. Before making his debut with Spell, Brendan Walter was a music video director, and he tasked some of his old friends with the soundtrack: the score is by Patrick Stump, lead singer of Fall Out Boy, and Weezer debuted their latest single under the credits.
