Getting over a breakup takes half the time the relationship lasted, a well-meaning friend tells Jean. Little help, since he was only just dumped by Mathilde (nono, he corrects himself: their split was a ‘mutual decision’) in this jumpy short film. Only now does he see that he really only has himself to blame.

Because really, Jean was kind of a passive-aggressive dick. Instead of starting a dialogue about their dormant sex life, he tells Mathilde how “endearing” he finds their “brother-sister-relationship”. He obsessively reminisces about the weekend they broke up and the boorish things he said, while preparing for an ill-timed birthday party where’s he’s invited a few too many guests.
We don’t actually get to see the party. We mostly see Mathilde and Jean, arguing through their last weekend. But creator Céline Devaux breaks open the world of her wonderfully energetic third short film with clever use of simple black-and-white animations, that interrupt the filmed world.
