Rocky’s tragic family history is shown in a dry comedic style, reminiscent of the films of Scandinavian filmmakers like Roy Andersson and Aki Kaurismäki, as well as Holland’s own Alex van Warmerdam. With great detail, the filmmakers conjure up their settings in the ’70s and ’80s, as Rocky discovers the magic of love as well as death.
