Twentysomething Jane dreams of becoming a director. As a first step she has gotten a job as a personal assistant at a large production company. In The Assistant, written, directed, produced and edited by Kitty Green, we witness Jane’s daily routine in the office.
During a single day, Jane grows increasingly aware of the insidious abuse that she – and other (female) employees – is subjected to, which threaten every aspect of her position. Green meticulously uncovers the sexual violence and exploitation in the working atmosphere, and its psychological toll.
