“At that time, this was my mood,” is the only thing Sawako Kabuki has said about her second short Requiem. The short shows naked male and female bodies continually transforming and spilling over into each other, accompanied by Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem.

Kabuki, Pluk de Nacht’s artist in focus this year, made the short when she was studying graphic design at Tama Art University in Tokio. After her debut Circle, this is definitely a step further, with a splash of colour showing up in impressionistic flashes of what looks like an oil-painting in between Kabuki’s characteristic line-drawings.
