Earthly Possessions
A pile of trash in the street, the last possessions of a neighbour that has passed away, is causing a commotion. Passersby add their discarded possessions, whilst others dig through the garbage in the hopes of finding an old chair of vase to give a new lease on life. A camera silently follows this spectacle from a safe distance, providing a visual cross-section of our materialistic society.
A fancy woman and her dog look on as lone outsiders. She’s the exception: everyone else is joining in. Both snobs and paupers dig through the garbage and turn a pile of flotsam on a street corner into a micro-cosmos in this short documentary by Dutch director Sander van der Eijk.
