The free voice

Iranian-born Golshifteh Farahani’s fight for women’s rights stretches beyond the movie screen. In 2012, she and other young French actors posed for the magazine Le Figaro as part of a protest against the oppression of women in the Middle East. This turned her into an enemy of the state in her homeland: the Iranian government banned her from ever entering the country again.
