Just to be clear: The { } And is a website, and also a short film. But that’s not what Pluk has in store for you. Here, The { } And is, in the words of creators Nathan Phillips and Topaz Azides, “an experience”.
How do you remember our first meeting? How have I disappointed you recently? Which of my bad habits is dearest to you? Do you have the best sex of your life with me? And what would you do if I cheated on you?
Just a random selection of the 412 different questions that Philips and Adizes posed to 30 couples for their interactive project The { } And. Couples as in lovers, but also parents and children, best friends or exes. Every duo received a set of questions especially tailored to them, and were instructed to pose them to each other. Without knowing the questions beforehand, and with three cameras filming them. Just one rule: every question has to be asked, but they don’t necessarily have to be answered.
The result is a website where the visitor is asked a couple of rather random questions (“do you decide with your head or your heart?” or “should money be used to accrue interest or be spent immediately?”) and receives a personal film of about 90 seconds with clips that are “suited” to him or her, based on the answers that were given. Afterwards you can browse to your heart’s content through all the couples and questions.
But, like we said, Pluk is going to do something totally different. Because in a field full of lovers, pining singles, parents with children and groups of friends, “interactive” suddenly becomes something completely different than it is online. What exactly? You’ll have to come see for yourself. Or rather: experience, and help create. The ingredients are simple: couples, questions, an audience, and total honesty. Because wherever there’s conflict, there’s a chance to become more intimate, the creators say – just as long as you keep communicating.
