Shouted from the Rooftops
- short
- 7'
- English subtitles
In this short, we accidentally become witness to a goodbye. In between the ruins of a burning city, not quite everyone has left. “Filmmaking is zooming in on something”, Dutch-Iranian-Kurdish director and screenwriter Beri Shalmashi (1983) said in an interview.
In less than seven minutes the camera zooms in on people surviving among the chaos. People that have to make choices most people will never have to make, because the life they landed in forces them to. In our safe little country, you shout from the rooftops to celebrate. In war-torn territory, yelling from a rooftop sounds a little different. Since her graduation from the Dutch Filmacademy, Beri Shalmashi has made such films as Heart on Fire and Mama.
