Deer Boy
- short
- 15'
A boy being born with deer’s antlers is the basis of this enigmatic short. Like the Polish director puts it herself in an equally elusive online introduction to the film: “It will be a little bit creepy. But also a little bit pretty.”
Another thing Katarzyna Gondek imparts her viewers with: Deer Boy is “a film – in which – we will say – nothing”. Which is to say: this short film has no dialogue, but it speaks all the more loudly through its mysterious and at times almost mystical imagery. Not only does the title character have an unexpected set of antlers on his head, which he saws off only to have it stubbornly grow back each night, he is also the son of a hunter. A film about how each must kill what he loves in order to survive.
