A Mixtape Afternoon: an event all about the cassette tape
(no reservation needed)
- overdag
On Friday August 17th, we’re joining forces with In-Edit Festival NL to present an afternoon dedicated to the cassette tape, with a free indoor movie screening, DJ and more cassette-related activities. Forgive us a slight national pride, as it was good old Dutch engineering that brought us this magnetic marvel.
Learn all about the history of the cassette tape, as well as its impact on musicians and music fans alike, with the film Cassette: A Documentary Mixtape. In this ode to the compact cassette, inventor Lou Ottens, now in his nineties, looks back on its inception while others like Henry Rollins and Thurston Moore talk about the freedom it afforded people to create, bootleg and share music.
After the film, get ready to boogie and bop as a DJ delights you with tracks straight from a cassette deck, or try one of the solo listening booths for a blind sample of someone’s childhood collection. And if you’re feeling inspired, why not try your hand at creating your own personal, shareable mixtape!
You’re welcome to join us at this completely free event, Friday August 17th from 15:00 onwards.
